Gas leak shuts down portion of downtown Auburn

UPDATE: The Auburn Fire Department says the roads reopened at 9:11 am. Atmos Enegy and crews will continue to work to resolve the gas leak. The department asks motorists to continue to use caution when driving through the area.

AUBURN, Ky. – A gas leak has shut down a portion of downtown Auburn.

The Auburn Fire Department says a gas leak at the site of a construction project to improve the intersection of U.S. 68X Main Street and KY 103 College Street is active. The gas leak has shut down Rector Avenue from Lincoln Street to College Street, and from Main Street to the railroad tracks near the Auburn School.

AFD says motorists should avoid the area of Wilson Avenue and West Main Street.

Atmos Energy crews are on site repairing the leak.

AFD states that the closure is expected to last approximately one hour.
