Funeral held for Louisville police detective killed in the line of duty

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Family, friends and community members gathered to say their final good-byes to the Louisville Metro Police Department detective killed on Christmas Eve.

Detective Deidre Mengedoht’s funeral was held at Southeast Christian Church Monday morning.

She will be laid to rest at Hebron Cemetery in Bullitt County. Due to rain, the graveside service was canceled.

The traditional police radio “last call” was held outside the church after the service inside.

On Sunday, family and friends paid their respects at her visitation.

On Saturday, hundreds lined the streets and paid their respects during Mengedoht’s procession.

A fund has been created for detective Mengedoht’s 9-year-old son, which has already raised more than $65,000.
