From homeless pooch to helping children read

RUSSELLVILLE Ky.- Reading is an essential skill, and the Logan County Public Library is giving kids the opportunity to brush up on reading in a unique way.

This opportunity is thanks to a dog named Raven, and her owner Anita Wright. Raven is trained to be an audience for kids as they work on reading, providing a judgment free zone. The program is called Waggin’ reads.

Raven is a pit bull mix and grew up without an owner. Wright adopted her and trained her to become a resource for kids who are brushing up on their reading skills.

Wright said it’s amazing to think that Raven started out as a homeless pup, and now she’s having an impact on these children.

“I just think it’s good for her where she came from to be able to give back and help the kids, to give a positive light for her breed to show that it’s not what everybody thinks it is. She just loves what she’s doing to come full circle and not have to fend for herself anymore and just do what she loves,” Wright said.
