FRANKLIN, Ky.- A 16-year-old Franklin-Simpson High School student was killed Tuesday in a scaffolding accident in Nashville.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Gustavo Enrique Ramirez fell to his death from scaffolding 120 ft. above the ground at a hotel construction site on Interstate Dr.

Police are calling the incident an accident.

Police said Ramirez’s 18-year-old brother was on the scaffolding with his back to the victim when he heard a noise, turned around and saw his brother fall.

Detectives did not find a safety harness on Ramirez or the scaffolding.

Ramirez was a member of the Franklin-Simpson High School soccer team and would have graduated in 2022.

Gustavo was described as a hard worker and supportive teammate, according to Franklin-Simpson soccer coach, Justin Dyer.

“He was always working because his family needed him to. That’s just the kind of person that he was, just always putting other people first. [He was] just a happy, happy person,” said Dyer.

“The obstacles are many just given the current situation. The class of 2022 is devastated as well as other class members that he got to know so it is going to be difficult for them to figure out how to place this and move forward,” said Franklin-Simpson High School Principal Byron Darnall.

“He was always trying to be better and he was just a really good guy. He was always encouraging, never had a negative thing to say to anybody. He would always say ‘Come on bro’ that was his slogan I guess. He was just an uplifting person,” said Dyer.

A vigil is planned for 8 p.m. Thursday at the high school soccer field.
