Franklin-Simpson drive-thru holiday display is Christmas come early!

Wandering Kentucky captures Christmas attractions

FRANKLIN, Ky. – One of the great ways you can enjoy your winter nights is by loading up the car and experiencing Franklin-Simpson’s new Christmas lights drive-through.

Franklin Simpson Parks & Recreation Director Lis Deavers said, “The first night we did it, I met a grandmother who brought her grandchildren through, and when they stopped and were given their donation, she said ‘I have one that’s crying.’ And I asked her, I said, ‘Why are you crying?’ And the girl said, ‘I am so excited!’ She said, ‘This is the first time we’ve ever done this, and I got to come to it!’”

The free display is sponsored entirely by the community.

“I will have to say, I did tear up the first night that we opened because as I looked down to see all the lights lit up, it was a representation of our community,” shared Deavers. “A lot of [the contributors] are small businesses with young children. So, it just touched my heart to know that they were giving during this season to give back.”

Don’t let Franklin be your only stop this winter. You’ll find hints of winter wonderland sprinkled throughout the Commonwealth. Wandering Kentucky is making it a holiday mission to visit and document all the neatest statewide displays.

“With it being dark out, it means you can go out at 5 o’clock and really take in these lights,” said Wandering Kentucky‘s  Matthew Brown. “So many people travel to this area especially because they’re tired of the bustle where they are, and they can come to get that small-town feel here in our little small towns in Southern Kentucky.”
