Franklin-Simpson community rallies around prayer fence at Lincoln Elementary
FRANKLIN, Ky. – At Lincoln Elementary School in Franklin, a unique way to keep students in the community’s thoughts is taking shape.
“As we all know, days are getting more difficult. Children are dealing with more things as they’re going back to school. I had saw on Facebook that there was a prayer fence in Paducah, and I thought it was a neat idea to reach out to our school system, our Parks and rec, community leaders, and try to get a fence set up here in Franklin,” Cindy Johnson, organizer of the Prayer Fence says.
The fence features 3 different color ribbons: red, yellow & blue.
“The ribbons are to either show your support for a particular group or if you’re representing a particular group. We have the red for the students. We have different colors for military, SROs, first responders, also staff, parents, guardians,” Johnson says.
If you’d like to show support by placing a ribbon, there will be a prayer walk on Sunday afternoon at 4.
“Our kids are facing many struggles, the struggles that they face today… I can’t even begin to imagine what it would have been like if we had those struggles back in our day. We just want to make sure that the students know that we’re there, that we care, and that we are unified,” Nancy Uhls, organizer of the Prayer Walk says.
