Franklin resident earns Girl Scouts’ highest honor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Franklin resident has received the Girl Scout Gold Award.
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana says Girl Scout Cameron Huggins’ project involved solving a shortage of sleeping space at Girl Scout Camp Houchens in Bowling Green.
According to Girl Scout officials, Huggins built a 12-person covered hammock unit to increase the camping options at Houchens.
She also created videos to teach Girl Scouts how to properly hang a hammock.
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana says this honor is “the mark of the truly remarkable – earned by a high school Girl Scout who works to address an issue she’s passionate about in a way that produces meaningful and lasting change.”
Officials say Cameron has become a community leader, with her leadership and citizenship skills setting her apart.
The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony this Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at the Houchens Program Center. Guests are encouraged to bring their own hammocks to practice hanging them up. In addition, those who take part can look forward to refreshments and s’mores making at the fire ring.
