Franklin man charged in rash of thefts from unlocked cars

FRANKLIN, Ky.- Police in Franklin have arrested one man, while another is still on the run, both believed to be connected to dozens of thefts from unlocked vehicles.

According to the Franklin Police Department, officers arrested Devon West, 19.

Police say from January 19- March 27, West and another man, Patrick Davis, 18, roamed various residential areas in Franklin, checking parked vehicles for unlocked doors.

Police say when the two found an unlocked vehicle, they stole anything of value.

According to detectives, one of the items stolen was a handgun, that police say was used in a drive-by shooting in Warren County on March 20.

West has been charged with 10 counts of theft of contents from a vehicle under $500, four counts of theft of contents from a vehicle-more than $500 and two counts of theft by unlawful taking-firearm.

West is lodged in the Simpson County Detention Center.
