Former WKU student killed in the line of duty remembered at memorial service
MADISON, Tenn.- Family, friends and colleagues gathered to remember fallen Metro Nashville Police Officer John Anderson on Monday.
A memorial service was held at Cornerstone Church in Madison.
Anderson, a former Western Kentucky University student, was killed in a fiery crash on July 4 after police say his patrol car was hit by a teen driver, who was fleeing from an officer in a separate incident.
Earlier in the day Monday, Police Chief Steve Anderson presented Anderson’s family with the Medal of Valor, the department’s highest honor.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee was among the speakers at the memorial service.
“Communities mourn the loss of citizens frequently, but when that citizen is a member of law enforcement, that loss is felt at a different level than other,” said Lee.
Following the service, Officer Anderson’s remains were escorted back to Spring Hill Funeral Home.
