Former Topper Charles Bassey inks 1-year deal with Golden State Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO – Five years ago, big man Charles Bassey was drafted 53rd overall, the most recent Hilltopper selected in an NBA Draft, and Thursday, the center signed a new pro contract, returning to the Golden State Warriors on a 1-year deal.

Bassey has spent time in his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, the San Antonio Spurs, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Boston Celtics, and even five games to round out the 2025-26 regular season with the Warriors.

Across 126 total games played, he has averaged 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

In five with Golden State last season, he averaged 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, his best numbers with any team this far into his career.

His junior year in Bowling Green was one of the best WKU men’s basketball has seen.

Bassey won Conference USA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year averaging 17.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, while also racking up 87 blocks on the season.

He would end his three-year Hilltopper career fifth all-time in blocks and fifth in all-time double-doubles, along with a long list of single-season accolades and many national recognitions.

Bassey will now work alongside fellow Warrior centers Kristaps Porziņģis and Al Horford as the franchise pursues its eighth NBA championship.
