Former NASCAR crew chief Jeff Hammond comes to Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A NASCAR legend was in Bowling Green Monday at the Capitol, sharing stories from throughout his career.
Legendary crew chief Jeff Hammond shared stories from throughout his lengthy career in the sport.
Hammond’s career started in 1974 as a simple tire changer for champion Cale Yarborough, and would eventually lead to him winning two Winston Cup championships as a crew chief for the great Darrell Waltrip.
Hammond is currently still in the racing business, now as an analyst.
We were able to speak to Hammond, who told us why he’s very fond of a town like Bowling Green.
“You think about Bowling Green being this big hustling, bustling city… and it’s still got a small town feel. We know around the outside there’s a lot of things going on, especially stuff with Chevrolet and the Corvette… and hot rods and everything. You can tell that from the get go. There’s a lot of hot rods in town,” he says.
While Jeff is done calling races this year, the season heats up starting June 30th at Nashville Superspeedway.
You can catch that race on WNKY NBC 40.
