Former Kentucky pastor charged with sexual offenses involving minors

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. – Sunrise Children’s Services has released a statement regarding a Pulaski County man charged with sexual offenses involving minors.

Fifty-four-year-old Scott Hughes of Somerset was arrested last week on charges of second-degree sodomy, third-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and other offenses.

In a social media post by Sunrise Children’s Services Kentucky on Friday, the company stated the following:

“Sunrise Children’s Services is aware of the recent arrest of former employee Scott Hughes in Pulaski County following an investigation into allegations involving minors. Mr. Hughes was employed by Sunrise Children’s Services from May 2022 through June 2024, serving in our Adolescent Alcohol and Other Drug Entity (AODE) program in Bronston, Kentucky.”

“The safety and well-being of the children and families entrusted to our care remain our highest priority. Sunrise Children’s Services maintains hiring procedures that include thorough reference and background checks for employees. Our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment is fundamental to our mission and ministry.

“While we do not have all the details surrounding this matter, we recognize the importance of allowing the legal process to proceed without speculation. Sunrise Children’s Services is prepared to cooperate fully with law enforcement and appropriate authorities throughout the investigation.

According to reporting by K105, Hughes is a former Kentucky pastor.

Pleasant View Baptist Church in Waynesburg has shared the following statement regarding Hughes:

“This announcement comes on behalf of the personnel team in collaboration with church deacons. Effective today, October 2, 2026, Scott Hughes is placed on administrative leave due to his recent arrest on serious charges. He is relieved of all duties until the investigation is complete.”

“We are deeply concerned and committed to handling this situation with care, integrity, and respect for all individuals involved.

“During this difficult time, we encourage our church family to remain prayerful for those impacted and remain united in our commitment to Christ and to one another.”

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. – A Pulaski County man is accused of sexual offenses involving minors.

According to Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones, 54-year-old Scott C. Hughes of Somerset was arrested after an investigation.

The investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.

Authorities say a detective received information regarding alleged sexual contact involving Hughes and individuals who were minors at the time of the offenses.

Deputies say the alleged incidents occurred in Pulaski County beginning in 2018.

According to the sheriff’s office, Hughes was arrested at his home Thursday night without incident. He has been charged with second-degree sodomy, third-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and other offenses.

Hughes is currently being held in the Pulaski County Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
