Former Fort Campbell soldier indicted on sexual abuse charge involving minor

PADUCAH, Ky. – A former Fort Campbell soldier is now indicted on a charge of sexual abuse of a minor.
According to a release by the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky, a federal grand jury in Paducah returned the indictment on June 10.
Court documents state 54-year-old Zachary Martin Young of Swansea, South Carolina was charged with one count of sexual abuse of a minor.
The release states Young “knowingly engaged in a sexual act with a minor victim” that was at least 12 years old but under 16. According to court documents, Young was a soldier at the time of the offense but later retired from the U.S. Army in 2014.
On July 29, Young was arraigned. If convicted, he faces a sentence of no more than 15 years in prison.
There is no parole in the federal system.
The case remains under investigation by the FBI Hopkinsville Satellite Office and the Army CID.
