Flu Season: Getting Prepared
BOWLING GREEN Ky. – With the worst months of a typical flu season fast approaching, many people are wondering when is the best time to get their flu shot and where.
Emily Ross M.D. at Med Center Health recommends going ahead and getting the jab before we are in the depths of fall and winter. That way the flu doesn’t have time to take hold in the general population which makes those in sensitive groups safer overall.
“Even if you aren’t worried yourself about getting sick and you think, Oh, it’s no big deal, I’ll get through it and it won’t be that big of a deal. It’s important to consider other people that you come in contact with.” Ross said.
There are many places in Bowling Green that offer flu shots, from the typical chain pharmacies to the local groups such as Springhill Pharmacy. The latter takes public health seriously, devoting time to local nursing homes in order to vaccinate that sensitive group yearly.
“We do offer two different types of vaccines. We do the high dose, which is for 65 and older. And then we also do the regular the regular flu shot and we also go around to different assisted living, living home here in town and do different clinics for them as well.” Lauren Crews, pharmacist at Springhill said.
