Flu cases spike in Bowling Green and three other cities

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The weather is changing which means flu season is kicking in.

One local urgent care facility is already noticing a spike in the number of flu cases in Bowling Green.

But we’re not the only city that’s seeing an increase.

In the month of January alone, the Medical Center Urgent Care gave a total of 394 flu tests.

Of those 394 tests, 78 were flu positive.

But it’s not just a rise in flu cases here locally.

In the 2018-2019 stats provided by the Medical Center, there is a rise in flu cases in Caverna, Franklin, and Scottsville.

From January 27th to February 2nd, 350 tests were given.

In that time the staff saw a 32.30% rate of people who were positive for Influenza A.

They also noticed a 0.86% rate of people positive for Influenza B.

We spoke to a local doctor, James Joyner, who says the only resolve is getting the flu shot sooner than later.

Joyner says if you still need to get your flu shot, they are always capable of giving one as long as you’re not already sick.

Shots are available every day at the Medical Center Urgent Care from 8 a.m to 8 p.m.
