First Christian Church offers pride service to LGBTQ+ community

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local church offers a worship service to the LGBTQ+ community.

“During Pride Month, we wanted folks who maybe have heard different messaging from the church to know that there is a place where they are loved and welcomed unconditionally, not in spite of who they are, but because of who they are believing that everyone is made in God’s image,” Megan Huston, Senior Minister at First Christian Church says.

The church is also the meeting place of BG Teen, who are celebrating Pride Month in their own unique way.

“It’s so important. Having this kind of support system for these kids can literally save their lives. Anything we can do to expand on that just improves their outcomes,” Crystal Akers, Founder and Director of BG Teen says.

One local evangelist is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and says he is incredibly happy to be able to spread the message through services like the one held at FCC.

“God has definitely gotten me through so many situations dealing with who I am as a gay man, and it’s an honor to be an ambassador for him and to share that to a community that has been ostracized and left behind. We need to be able to bring them back into the church,” Desmond Robinson says.

Robinson has one message to anyone in the community that struggles with their identity.

“God loves you unconditionally. He created you in his image regardless of what your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, your friends say. He created you in his image and you are needed in your churches, you’re needed in your community,” Robinson says.
