Sunday 10:30 a.m. UPDATE: Bowling Green fire officials say the clubhouse is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Fire gutted Indian Hills Country Club Saturday night.

Flames and smoke could be seen for several miles.

Bowling Green Fire Department received the call at 7:39 p.m. As of 11 p.m. Saturday firefighters did not know what caused the blaze. When they arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the roof.

Water access was challenging for firefighters due to the proximity of a fire hydrant from the structure.

BGFD Deputy Chief Rob Gilliam said there were people inside the building when the fire first started but everyone made it out safely. He was not aware of any injuries late Saturday night.

Fire ripped though the building causing the roof to collapse, he said. The fire burned for several hours.

Bowling Green Fire Department used eight trucks with personnel from that department and also utilized assistance and equipment from Alvaton, Gott and Plano Volunteer Fire Departments. As of 11:16 p.m. firefighters remained on the scene working to extinguish hot spots.

People near the club heard a loud boom during the fire.

Firefighters were in defensive mode at about 9 p.m. meaning they had to remain at a safe distance from the structure, he said.
