Female jockey looking to make Kentucky Oaks history
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – There are two things the Kentucky Oaks is known for, and they both have a feminine allure about them.
The first is the color pink, worn in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer; the other is fillies, the Oaks race taking place by female horses.
In the race’s history, only one female jockey has ever won the Oaks: Rosie Nepravnick and her horse Believe You Can.
This year, Sophie Doyle, a jockey from England, is hoping to make history and become the second female jockey to win the Oaks.
She’ll be riding Street Band, who’s currently a long shot at 15-1 odds, but Doyle is just glad to have the opportunity to make horse racing history.
Right now, Bellafina remains the favorite to win the Oaks at 2-1 odds.
