FDA issues 2025-26 flu vaccine recommendations

The Food and Drug Administration has issued its flu vaccine recommendations for 2025 into 2026. The FDA says that vaccines for the upcoming respiratory virus season should be trivalent. That means to protect against two strains of influenza A and one of influenza B. The agency’s decision comes without input from its group of independent vaccine advisers,  whose meeting was canceled without explanation late last month. Instead of that, the FDA brought together some of its experts, along with ones from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Defense. That group poured over data from the U.S. and the world about flu viruses currently circulating.
