Fatal collision involving Greyhound bus leaves one dead, multiple injured
MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – One person is dead and multiple others were injured this morning after a Greyhound bus, tractor-trailer truck and a passenger vehicle collided on Interstate 65 south near the 68 mile marker.
The passenger vehicle, driven by Charles Cartwright, 37, of Louisville, Ky. was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of the interstate for three miles prior to the head-on collision with the bus, driven by Michael Whitefield of California and and a semi tractor-trailer truck, driven by Jamie Crescencio, 34, of Mexico, Kentucky State Police Trooper Jeremy Hodges said. The passenger vehicle was in flames when police arrived on the scene.
Whitefield sustained injuries and is hospitalized, Hodges said. The six other injured people were taken by ambulances to area hospitals for medical treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Twenty nine additional bus passengers did not report injuries.
Crenscencio and a passenger in his truck were not injured.
A detour was set up for several hours.
Police called for a crew to clean up about 50 gallons of fuel that spilled as a result of the wreck.
