Family Five program is made free to help with at home learning
BOWLING GREEK Ky.- Across the state, students are participating in non-traditional instruction. Now, an extra resource has been added. It’s called the Family Five program, which is provided by Bluegrass Learning services in Bowling Green.
It is good news for South Edmonson Elementary parent teacher organization president Amanda Denham.
“My kids love getting online and using all of the different programs that are offered. It’s really exciting,” Denham said.
The program gives parents online access to reading, writing, mathh and even Spanish lessons made for students, kindergarten through 2nd grade.
Normally, there’s a charge to use the resource. However, in light of students remaining home due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the program is being offered for free.
“We hope they can use Family Five to engage with their children in a meaningful way and continue learning while they’re at home,” said Bluegrass Learning Services founder and president Joseph Deaton.
The main goal is to provide parents with the resources to be able to help teach their children as they learn as well.
“The parents absolutely love it. They say it’s been so helpful to be able to help see what’s expected of their child at school,” Deaton said.
Outside of what school districts offer, extra resources can get costly, especially for bigger families. Denham said she’s glad to have this free resource.
“When you have four kids and have to pay for this, that, and the other, being able to take advantage of all the free things out there I think is important,” Denham said.
It’s another example of the community coming together during a tough time.
“It gives me a sense of comfort in a time that’s kind of chaotic and crazy. It makes me feel good to live in a community where everyone is willing to help one another,” Denham said.
In the future, Bluegrass Learning Services are looking to expand Family Five to cover all grade levels.
