False ransom note leads to teenager’s arrest

A teenager is behind bars, following an incident in which she is accused of sending a fake ransom note to her father for money.

Corbin Police say 19 year old Abbygail Farley was reported missing by her father. He says he got text messages from her alleged abductors asking for ransom money, and after Farley’s father dropped off $400, police discovered that Farley had used a text free app to send the messages to her father.

Police found Farley staying in a nearby apartment, after which, she admitted to police that she made it all up and was never missing or in danger. Farley was arrested and charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident, Theft by Extortion, Theft and Disorderly Conduct.

Officers took her to the Whitley County Detention Center.
