FAFSA delays have students sweating
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Students across the nation and the Commonwealth are worrying about the delayed disbursements from the Department of Education.
Typically, disbursements are already going out, making this an inordinately stressful time for students, but especially for those that are about to graduate from high school. For many students, the amounts received from the federal government are a major deciding factor in their choice of university.
Thankfully, the process is not too different from how it was pre-2017, says WKU director of Student Financial Assistance Bryson Davis. There is simply an uneasy delay for many who are eager to get all of their finances in order before heading off to college.
“The Department of Education will make the necessary adjustments to allow schools, in my opinion, to be able to do what needs to be done to ensure that students receive the aid that they’re eligible for for this year. As I said, the process up to this point has been less than ideal,” Davis said.
Davis also expects that there will most likely be a few more bumps in the road before this years process is finally over. He did say however, that the changes implemented this year are good at streamlining the application and he expects it to go much more smoothly next year.
