Expect bad weather Thursday, use caution while driving

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Heavy rain, flooding and high winds are bad conditions for those out on the roadways.

Warren County has been under flood watch since early Wednesday morning. The roads have been very wet and dangerous.

“With excessive rainfall coming in, we can expect  some standing water in low water areas. We want everyone to be aware, use precautions as they travel about over the next couple days,” said Ronnie Pearson, director at Warren County Emergency Management.

If you do go out in dangerous weather situations, officials stress preparing.

“This is a good time for people to start thinking it through, check their preparedness kits they have at home, talk to their family members about what they would do if a severe weather even happened and just be prepared,” said Pearson.

In dangerous situations, officials advise avoiding travel and staying inside, but if you do go out, there are some important precautions to consider.

“Have a disaster kit in your vehicle and in your home. Make sure you know where your relatives, friends and significant others are going to be at any given time so that you can reach out if someone fails to make their destination,” said Pearson.

Pearson details a few important items that people should keep in those disaster kits.

“Any type of food staples, water, your medications, cash. If for instance, we had a large power outage caused by a storm, your ATMs are not going to work, your cards are not going to work. So, you need to have some cash laid back,” said Pearson.

Pearson also advises drivers to consider your alternate routes, follow severe weather updates and if you find yourself in an emergency call 911.
