Evergreen Commons development moves forward in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A new 17-acre mixed-use development called Evergreen Commons located off Nashville Road is moving forward in Bowling Green, bringing housing, retail, restaurants and a historic centerpiece to the area.
Developers say the vision for Evergreen Commons began three years ago when they purchased the property with the goal of delivering something new while meeting needs in the community.
The project includes Cedar Point Apartments at the back of the development, a Wawa convenience store expected to open in June or July and a flagship Bowling Green location for Farmers Bank and Trust on an adjacent lot.
At the center of the property will be “The Lookout,” a 40,000-square-foot mixed-use space featuring retail, restaurants, office space and a large outdoor gathering area. Developers say the design was intentional, especially with Bowling Green hosting numerous soccer, softball and baseball tournaments throughout the year.
They say the outdoor space will give families a place to shop, eat and spend time between games, including a play area for children.
Anchoring the development will be a 70-foot historic fire tower originally built in 1916 out west. The tower will be relocated to Bowling Green, restored using original architectural plans and lit at night as a focal point for the property.
Construction on The Lookout is set to begin in March, with phased openings planned throughout the year. Cedar Point Apartments are already under construction, with units expected to become available by late this year or early next year.
Developers say infrastructure planning has been part of the process from the beginning. They have worked with city, local and state officials regarding traffic flow in the area and are pursuing a traffic signal at the entrance of the development. Multiple traffic pattern options are under review, with a final decision pending at the state level.
Developers also gave a shoutout to American Bank & Trust for its partnership on The Lookout, calling the local bank a key piece in bringing the project together and saying it has been fully supportive of the vision.
