Ethan, dog involved in neglect case, on the mends thanks to BGWC Humane Society

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Recently, you may remember hearing how Bowling Green Police arrested 23-year-old Damion Temple, charging him with torture of a dog or cat.

The Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society rescued a German Shepherd mix, who was found extremely thin and unable to stand. But good news is on the horizon for Ethan.

“When he arrived to us, she had already told us that we needed to be prepared, like it was really, really bad. We didn’t know how bad it really was or what to expect. But whenever she brought him in, he was basically lifeless. After sending him to the vet and after our vet looking over him, it was clear that it was pure neglect for a very long time,” Katlyn Hare, an adoption counselor with the humane society, says.

After a little TLC, Ethan now looks much better, able to move around and even take a bath.

“We’ve got him a little kennel set up, obviously going to get him on a very strict feeding schedule, continue with all of his medication, and I know eventually we’ll be able to find him and get home whenever he is available for adoption,” Hare says.

That’s thanks to the community, namely a donor who covered the whole cost of his medical bill.

“I know there was an anonymous donor that reached out to the clinic that he was at and did pay that full bill, but we did have several citizens that did donate to his care, even though that had already been paid for. Of course that will go towards his care while he is here at the shelter now,” Hare says.

The humane society is grateful to the community for their help, not just with Ethan’s situation but with many others.

“Every single time we post something on social media needing something, our community backs us up and rallies around us. Situations like this, obviously we kind of see a little bit more of a positive effect on that, but it’s every time we need something, they really do come and they rally around us,” Hare says.
