Epicenter claims victory at Travers Stakes, heads to Breeders’ Cup
SARATOGA, N.Y. – Epicenter continues his winning ways, placing first at the Travers Stakes in Saratoga, New York.
“You’re relieved once you saw him out in the open and knew he had an opening to go through, and then once he turned it on it was amazing that he dominated them that much, he ran super that day.”
He faced off against Rich Strike, who beat him in the Kentucky Derby.
His time was the fastest at the track since 2016.
“Two minutes and 73 one hundredths. You get to compare yourself against anybody you want. I mean that is exceptional.”
It was special for Epicenter’s breeders at Bowling Green Westwind Farms. They made the trip to upstate New York to see him race in person.
“Afterward, we got to go back. They have a special room, they call it the champagne room, and they go in there and they’re all toasting, and we meet the owner again and talk to the trainer. The whole thing, it was just really special.”
They can’t thank the community enough for their support back home.
“To me, the special thing has been the way Bowling Green, between the way you put it on the news and the way it’s been publicized, and the people of Bowling Green really rallied around him that’s made it as special as anything.”
Now he turns his focus on the $6 million Breeders’ Cup in November at Keeneland.
“I just think he’s on his way and we haven’t seen the best of him, and that’s unbelievably exciting to think about.”
