EPA orders Norfolk Southern to clean up aftermath of train derailment

(CNN) – The Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Norfolk Southern to clean up its train derailment and controlled burn in Ohio.

As part of the process, the EPA is ordering all necessary actions associated with clean up.

They will also reportedly approve a workplan outlining all of the steps to do so.

If Norfolk Southern fails to comply with any of it, the EPA will take the steps and bill Norfolk Southern for triple the cost.

The EPA is also offering cleaning services to businesses and residences that have been affected.

The rail company will reimburse the agency for those efforts.

The EPA is also requiring Norfolk Southern to participate in public meetings on the matter.
