Edmonson County School Superintendent Patrick Waddell announces retirement

BROWNSVILLE Ky.- After 27 years working in education with 16 years providing guidance as superintendent of the Edmonson County School District, Patrick Waddell announced his retirement at the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

“It’s kind of bittersweet. I’ve really enjoyed my time in education throughout my career and enjoyed being superintendent for the past 16 years. It’s been a truly blessed experience,” Waddell said.

From the middle school to high school, this news is also bittersweet for the staff who have worked for Waddell for years.

“I always enjoyed working for him. He’s always been very supportive. He provides us with the resources we need to meet the needs of our kids,” said Edmonson County Middle School principal Brandon Prunty.

“The thing I have to say about Mr. Waddell. If there was a time when I need to go talk to him in confidence, he did not betray my confidence at any time,” added Edmonson County High School Principal Brian Alexander.

Beyond the walls of the school, Waddell has had long lasting friendships with the staff as well.

“My experience with Mr. Waddell goes back a long time. We actually went to high school together. I’ve known him since we were teenagers,” said Edmonson County High School guidance counselor Michael Meredith.

Waddell said he’s confident the next superintendent will follow the mission statement of the Edmonson County Wildcats.

“I’m proud of what I’ve been able to do here. The teachers, principals, all the effort they’ve put in,” Waddell said.

Waddell said he’ll never forget being a part of the growth of the students
