Edmonson County School District awarded $39,000 for new textbooks

BROWNSVILLE, Ky.- Middle and high school students in Edmonson County will soon be learning from new textbooks.

The school district has received a $39,000 grant from the Steele-Reese Foundation, which supports rural communities in several states, including Kentucky. The district applied for the grant a few months ago.

According to district Director of Special Instructional Services Jamie Carnes, the district’s funding for new text books has been non existent for a number of years.

School officials plan to use the money to purchase new social studies textbooks for students in grades 5 through 12.

Carnes said because of the grant, the school board will spend some money on providing 4th grade students with new textbooks as well.
