Edmonson County man charged with fleeing police, assault of police officer

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – One man is behind bars after allegedly fleeing police in Edmonson County.

According to a uniform citation, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched on Oct. 24 for a reported EPO violation.

Authorities say while responding, they passed a vehicle matching the given description.

Deputies say they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the vehicle failed to stop and sped up to 70 miles per hour down Nolin Dam Road.

Authorities say the driver continued to Stone Hill Road, where he exited the vehicle and walked toward a storage shed.

According to the citation, the subject, identified as 38-year-old Cory Burns of Bee Spring, remained in the shed while authorities deployed a K-9, made verbal commands and entered the shed.

Authorities say Burns began to resist arrest, and a taser was deployed. Despite this, deputies say Burns “continued fighting,” resulting in injuries to himself and law enforcement.

EMS was called to the scene for Burns’ injuries. After being medically cleared, Burns was transported to the Hart County Jail.

He faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot), first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), violation of Kentucky EPO/DVO, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree assault of police officer or probation officer, resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct and menacing.
