Edmonson County Fiscal Court sends proposal by the local rescue squad back to drawing board
BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – The Edmonson County Fiscal Court has denied a proposal by the local rescue squad to partner with them for emergencies.
The rescue squad agreement was terminated at the end of December and has since been restructured.
Edmonson County Judge Executive and County Attorney have asked Tim Skees, the head of the rescue squad, to write up a new plan of action and change some wording out of the current plan, according to Terry Massey, the county’s Emergency Management Director.
Massey says he fully supports having a rescue squad but wants it to be done correctly and expects to work together with them and make sure they are well trained.
“A proper rescue squad is going to have the training where they go out and train on their time, on the weekends, endangering their selves. But they’re trained to do the water rescue, trained to do the search, trained to look for a lost kid. There’s a whole lot of different avenues of training, like high angle rope rescued if we came into that situation,” said Massey.
For now, until the rescue squad brings forward a new proposal, Massey says the county is safe and covered by the city fire department rescue boats and volunteer firefighters as well as his own personal boat that he will use if needed.
He even says they can call another county to come assist if they are needed.
