Edmonson Co. man charged with fleeing police on motorcycle

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – A Brownsville man is facing multiple charges, including fleeing police.

According to a uniform citation, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office observed 20-year-old Jeremiah Powell of Brownsville traveling on a motorcycle going 80 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone on Tuesday.

Authorities say they turned around and activated their lights behind Powell, who sped up to 122 mph and turned onto Old Chalybeate Road.

The citation states Powell then went around a cruiser and turned onto Chalybeate School Road, going “up to 100 mph in a 35 mph zone.”

Powell eventually turned onto Sulphur Road, where he overcorrected and laid his bike down into a ditch and surrendered, authorities say.

Powell was arrested and remains at the Hart County Jail.

He is charged with speeding 26 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit, illegal possession of a legend drug, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment, disregarding a stop sign, reckless driving and failure to produce an insurance card.
