EBT benefits are coming to Kentucky kids through the USDA Summer Benefits
BOWLING GREEN, KY.- For many children, when school is out for the summer finding healthy food isn’t always easy, but this summer, all that’s about to change.
Thanks to a summer EBT program created by the USDA families with children in grades k through twelve will be able to apply for the program and receive forty dollars a month to go towards healthy food options. Nearly 600,000 children who normally don’t have access to healthy food will now be able to receive nutritious food options this summer.
Willie Taylor the Regional Administrator USDA Food and Nutrition Service for the Southeast Region shares how valuable this will be for children. Taylor says, “This is an important aspect of making sure that we are feeding the children to make sure that no child is left out of the opportunity to eat. It’s to help reduce hunger across the country, no matter what part of the country you live in.”
After the management plan is put into place parents will then be able to apply for their children. News 40 will continue to keep you updated on when this plan is put into place.
