FRANKFORT, Ky. – Rep. Robert Duvall of Bowling Green has been named the new vice chair of the Kentucky House’s Health Services Committee, House Speaker David Osborne announced this week.

“As a healthcare provider, I’ve devoted my career to helping the men and women of my community live healthier lives and I’m grateful for the opportunity to put the experience I’ve gained through my practice to work for our Commonwealth, Duvall said. “Without a doubt, we want to improve access to quality care. To do so, we have to attract the next generation of health care providers to work in areas across the state.”

According to a release by the Kentucky House Majority Caucus, members of the Health Services Committee focus on public policy that decides how the state addresses health care, mental health, substance abuse and medical providers.

“I’m incredibly pleased to see the direction this committee is heading in under the leadership of Representative Duvall,” Osborne said. “This committee is instrumental in advancing legislation aimed at improving access to healthcare, addressing mental health, and supporting our healthcare workforce. As a healthcare provider, Rep. Duvall will bring invaluable expertise and insight into the issues facing our healthcare system.”

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, a committee chair “serves as the parliamentary head of a committee. The chair sets the committee’s agenda, determining when—or in many states, whether—bills will be considered.”

In addition to leading the committee, Duvall will also serve as a member of the Banking and Insurance; Economic Development and Workforce Investment; Families and Children; and Public Pension Oversight Board committees.
