Drug task force unites to combat drugs in Russellville

LOGAN COUNTY, KY.- More than a year ago, the Russellville Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office came together as a joint effort to create the drug investigation unit.

“The sheriff and I have probably been intentional since June or July of 2024, when we both had a meeting, and we stated that we wanted to get our agencies to work hand-in-hand together to basically be more effective for the community in which we serve,” Chief Jeff Sandford with Russellville Police Department said.

Providing safety by removing drugs from the community takes the two law enforcement agencies working together.

“Their units focus on we’re together,” Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton said. “They may be within the city limits of Russell, Adairville, or Olmsted or Lewisburg. But, you know, they’re working as a unit, not one entity.”

No matter where the crime takes place the goal remains the same for the sheriff’s office and for the police department.

“We want to make a direct impact,” Stratton said. “By joining together we can make that possible. So we, you know, we want to get out. We want to just disrupt the flow of trafficking or possession. It doesn’t matter what level you are in the drug world or you know, the situation that you’re in. You know, we’re targeting all of those situations. So, you know, we want that information to get out, but we’re not doing it for headlines.”
