Drug Free Warren County initiative launches in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A new program aimed at keeping children in our community off of drugs has launched in Warren County.
On Thursday afternoon at Mariah’s Restaurant in Bowling Green, elected leaders, medical professionals, educators and law enforcement personnel, joined together to celebrate the launch of Drug Free Warren County.
The organization is funded by federal dollars to teach K-12 students about the dangers of using drugs and alcohol.
The organization, which has partnered with the Save our Kids Coalition, will provide a curriculum to schools and attend events to spread the word.
“I feel like and have seen numbers that show this community needs a group like this,” said Amy Stillwell, the program director for Drug Free Warren County. “It takes everyone for awareness with children. Everyone needs to be aware and I think having Drug Free Warren County, along with everyone else on board with us, will make our community safer.
According to health professionals who spoke at the luncheon, marijuana and synthetic drugs are the two most common narcotics being abused by youngsters in south central Kentucky.
