Drakes Creek Middle School student named as state winner of Doodle for Google contest

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Drakes Creek Middle School student Aleesha Niyorukundo has been chosen as Kentucky’s Doodle for Google winner.
This year’s prompt is “My wish for the next 25 years…” Students expressed this through their art in celebration of Google’s 25th anniversary, according to a release by the company.
Niyorukundo wishes for a world at peace where poverty and homelessness are solved in the next 25 years, Google states.
Aleesha’s artwork was one of 55 state and territory winners selected among tens of thousands of submissions. To celebrate their achievements, Google sent each of the 55 students Google hardware and swag, and held celebrations to showcase their artwork.
Her submission included the following answer to the “My wish for the next 25 years…” prompt:
The colors of Peace
“My Doodle represents a world at peace in 25 years. This will allow people to have fair learning opportunities, children to be themselves and not worry about the safety of their countries, and people to focus on making the Earth a cleaner place. It will allow poverty and homelessness to be solved.”
All 55 winners will now move on to a national contest where five national finalists will be selected, with the winner receiving a $55,000 scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for their school or a nonprofit organization of their choice.
