Drakes Creek mile marker placement assists emergency personnel

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – As the weather warms up, we know some of you want to experience the great outdoors and safely as well. Thanks to some signage along Drakes Creek, it can put some concerns at rest you might not have known you had.

Warren County Emergency Management along with Drakes Creek Canoe, LLC put up mile marker signs along the creek in 2019 to make outdoor activities safer for both adventurers and first responders.

Travis Puckett told News 40 over the recent years, they have served their purpose by cutting down response time significantly by helping emergency services know exactly where someone is or at least be able to narrow it down.

Puckett also offered some tips when in your canoe or kayak, or on your paddleboard. Having a charged cellphone is super important, as well as having some sort of waterproof containing method and to bring a life vest or something similar.

The Deputy Director of Warren County’s Emergency Management added that the department’s goal is to eventually erect the same mile marker system along Green River and Barren River.
