Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Celebration
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Many people gathered and continued to remember the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a Memorial Breakfast and a Memorial March.
The theme of the day was “It Starts with Me.” This celebration was created by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee, and many volunteers were excited to honor the man who paved the way for many leaders of today and for the future generations to come.
Pam Stevenson, retired colonel and representative, shares the character of King.
She says, “We celebrated the promise of America as stated by Dr. King. He stood for all people. He was a humanitarian, and his words still ring true today. We’ve got some work to do.”
Remembering popular pillars from the past and how they impact the local and state leaders today – MLK preserves history. Although there are many organizations and nonprofits ready to give support, Stevenson also shares there is still more to be done, and, as a community, we need to unite as one.
“We must live for something bigger than ourselves,” she says. “If we are to have each human in their paths, if we’re going to reach the promise of America, then we all must give them something bigger than themselves. That’s the only way we can live in this community.”
The day began and ended with encouragement and excitement for the future. The trailblazers who paid the price and the leaders of today say it is well worth the end results.
