Metcalfe Co. Fairgrounds to host tire amnesty event
EDMONTON, Ky – Metcalfe County’s Fairgrounds will host a 2024 Spring Waste Tire Amnesty from May 16 through May 18.
The Division of Waste Management offers free waste tire collection events every three years on a rotating basis for each county. The DWM also grants $4,000 to county government entities to dispose of what they collect at their respective events.
In 2021, Metcalfe County received 16,500 tires from two collection events.
The Kentucky Division of Waste Management says that about 4 million scrap tires are generated annually in Kentucky. Kentucky law emphasizes tire management in order to lower risk of fire, infestation of mosquitos or rats, water entrapment, etc.
From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Kentucky residents are welcomed to drop off their unwanted tires for all three days at no cost.
It will be restricted to tire retailers, salvagers and recycling businesses. Gov. Andy Beshear says $847,878 will be awarded to 23 counties for projects using recycled rubber. Projects like park benches, picnic tables, landscaping, parking curbs, etc.
