FRANKLIN, Ky. – Anniversaries are often something to celebrate, but for a shelter dog, reaching a year without a home is a heavy milestone.

Sturgill has been at the Simpson County Animal Shelter since last October, spending nearly a year at the shelter.

The shelter describes Sturgill as a friendly, smart adult male dog. Rescuers say he loves people and other dogs – he just needs the chance to show it with a loving home.

“His enthusiasm is contagious, a kind of joyful exuberance that transforms even the most ordinary moment. He’s like Marmaduke come to life, but with better emotional range and a stronger sense of humor,” one volunteer stated.

Shelter staff and volunteers say he immediately goes into his kennel without help, he gives a “thank you kiss” before eating and this boy is known to make them smile.

Sturgill’s vaccinations are also up to date, and he is neutered, according to petfinder.com. His adoption fee currently stands at $50.

If you would like to start the fall season off with a new friend and meet Sturgill, contact the Simpson County Animal Shelter at 270-586-3125 or visit in-person at 2194 Kenneth Utley Drive in Franklin on Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
