Doctors help survivors of Helene
WASHINGTON CO., VA.- Many people have been overwhelmed trying to pick up the pieces after Helene. And that’s only going to grow worse with last night’s landfall of Hurricane Milton. Now, personal appointments are getting pushed to the backburner.
We learn about one doctor who saw a need and has been working to fill it for those affected in Southwest Virginia.
When you lose nearly everything you own sometimes, your health becomes a lower priority.
On a typical day, Doctor Mark Handy is hard at work in his practice helping patients in Abingdon, Virginia.
But, following the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, Doctor handy is taking his expertise on the road to help people affected by the storm. When Handy is working in the community he often sees patients who aren’t his own but to him, this is a calling. Dr. Handy says he became a doctor nearly 30 years ago because he wanted to help people. It doesnt matter if they are his patients or not, he believes doctors are called to duty to help people that are in need.
