Detective shares details in 35-year-old unsolved Russellville homicide
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – The Russellville Police Department needs your help solving a homicide case.
The homicide of Glenn Shaffer is the only unsolved murder in Russellville.
On the night of April 26, 1990, Shaffer, who worked odd jobs around the city, bought cigarettes and bubblegum at the Minit Mart that was at the corner of First and Peyton Streets.
According to the store’s clerk, Shaffer walked toward East Second Street after leaving. A witness heard shots around midnight in the vicinity of East Third and Fourth Streets. The same witness saw a white male walking toward Second Street.
Shaffer was found having been shot, but he was still alive when first responders were called to 562 East Second St. He was taken to the hospital and told investigators he knew his killer before he died.
Detective Kenneth Edmonds with the Russellville Police Department says, “He told them, ‘don’t worry about it. I know who done it. I’ll get them myself.’ We’re still looking. I’m hoping that somebody is concerned enough, after all these years, to be able to help the Russellville Police Department solve this crime and help bring closure for his son and his daughter.”
No weapon was located in the investigation of this 35-year-old crime.
Shaffer’s wallet was discovered between East Third and Fourth streets in a search that covered a large area the following day. Shaffer was in his 30s when he was killed.
