FRANKLIN, Ky.- Crews began demolishing the I-65 Simpson County, Kentucky Welcome Center on Wednesday.

Demolition was originally supposed to begin last week, but was delayed due to rain.

The structure was originally built in 1974. Since then, the facility has not received any major upgrades.

Truck parking remains open during construction.

The new welcome center will be larger and fully ADA compliant. It’s expected to open later this year.
