Cox and Bauer Named CUSA Players of the Week
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Conference USA released its Player of the Week Awards on Monday, with two WKU volleyball players earning recognition. Senior outside hitter Kaylee Cox earned Offensive Player of the Week while redshirt junior setter Callie Bauer earned Setter of the Week. This is the second award this season for both players.
Cox’s performance over the four matches included 55 kills through 17 sets for 3.24 kills per set and posted a .293 hitting clip [55-14-140]. Three of her four matches featured double-digit kill performances while at the net, she collected 10 total blocks including four solo blocks and registered 30 digs on the back row.
Bauer appeared almost everywhere on the stat sheet as the Michigan native recorded 19 kills for a .372 hitting percentage [19-3-43]. She averaged 10.00 assists per set with 170 credited assists on 385 attempts. At the service line, she collected four services aces, the third-most for the Hilltoppers. On defense, she posted 10 blocks and 42 digs. Bauer also posted two double doubles over the week with 39 assists and 15 digs on Wednesday against MTSU and on Saturday against FIU with 54 assists and 12 digs.
The two helped lead the Hilltoppers through a schedule that saw four matches played and won in six days. As a team, WKU hit for .346 on the weekend, almost doubling their opponents’ hitting percentage average of .190. WKU almost doubled their opponents’ blocking efforts as well, collecting a total of 47 to the opposing’s 25.
WKU’s first match also featured an offensive performance that tied for the most kills of the season at 67.
Bauer and Cox earned their second accolades of the season while earning the Hilltoppers at least one award for the third week so far. WKU is the only school in Conference USA to have at least two players named Player of the Week in different categories three times. Cox is also the only offensive player in CUSA to have earned Offensive Player of the Week more than once.
WKU returns to E. A. Diddle Arena on Friday, October 18, to host Louisiana Tech for two matches. First serve on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
