County schools hold ceremony to honor memory of Dr. Martin Luther King

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The auditorium was nearly full late Saturday afternoon at Warren Central High School as a crowd turned out to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

While the holiday is officially observed Monday, the Warren County Public Schools took time out over the weekend to honor students who wrote essays and created art to celebrate the dream. This year’s theme was “Dream, Believe, Achieve.”

Darryl Van Leer reenacted some of Dr. King’s speeches while students performed songs.

Michael Coleman, who works for the Warren County Public Schools said he’s encouraged when he sees a culturally diverse audience for events like this.

It tells him the dream is still alive, Coleman said. He said he also hopes the students will use Dr. King’s dream as a blueprint for their lives and that they will see we all live as one and need unity.
