Cosmetologists teach students hair care at Warren Elementary hair clinic
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-“If you don’t take good care of your hair you end up bald,” said one student.
5th and 6th grade Warren Elementary students attended a free hair clinic for healthy, manageable hair.
“When I get up in the morning it’s like crazy,” laughed another student.
Local cosmetologists are teaching the girls how to use different products and how to take care of their hair.
“Talked to the girls about maintaining their hair…a lot of kids get teased because kids are cruel. they’re on social media, they see things and wanna do that, we just want to teach them to maintain their hair and make every girl feel beautiful,” said Addiction Barbershop and Hair Salon owner Brittany Griffith.
Many of the students are from refugee camps where hair products were scarce or not available at all.
“They’re just so excited that they not only know how to take care of their hair, but they have the opportunity to do so. Whereas back in their home country they might not have had that opportunity,” said Warren Elementary Family Resource Center Coordinator Kelsey Chapman.
Each girl was sent home with a goodie bag full of hair products…including shampoo, conditioner, oil, a brush, and more.
“We can’t wait to go home and try the products.”
“Your hair is a part of your body and it makes you sort of you and it has like a difference on your body.”
