Corvette parade for World Down Syndrome Day

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day Monday, Cumberland Trace Elementary pulled out all the stops and the cars.

The Corvette Club brought out over a dozen cars for the Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky buddies to ride in around the elementary school. Each of their fellow classmates made a sign to cheer on their buddies.

They’ve done parades in the past, but last year they weren’t able to due to COVID. So this year they went all out and got a Corvette club involved.

Each buddy got to ride in the passenger seat of a Corvette as they took laps around the school’s track. Scott Lewis, dad of buddy Asher said he was trying to hold back tears.

“It’s hard to even fathom that these kids are loved this much. I’m rarely at a loss for words but I’m at a loss for words. I couldn’t have a better situation for these kids; the educators, the school, everybody loves them, it’s just amazing,” said Lewis.

“I feel loved,” said buddy Asher Lewis.

A few of the buddies attend Cumberland Trace Elementary as they are one of the two elementary schools in the area with specialized learning for those born with Down syndrome.
