Corvette Museum 25th anniversary kicks off with track time

BOWLING GREEN Ky.-The 25th anniversary of the National Corvette Museum has officially kicked off.

Not only are visitors piling into the museum, but also the NCM Motorsports Park. Here, Corvette owners can park their Corvettes with the others while they check out the museum. Some are hitting the tracks for the first time.

“We’re really excited. We have a lot of folks here from out of town, a lot of folks that haven’t been to the museum or the racetrack here so it’s an exciting time,” National Corvette Museum Motorsports park general manager Mitch Wright said.

While the museum offers a chance to see stationary Corvettes, the racetrack gives people the chance to see a mobile one, in addition to making new friends.

“We meet a lot of people. It’s just fun to talk to them and to see about their cars and where they’re from,” said Roger Laughlin, a visitor from Twin Falls, Idaho.

Some enthusiasts are here to see how the Corvettes perform on the road.

“I’m looking at strictly performance, what they’re doing on the track, what they’re modifying. The Corvette in my opinion is one of the greatest sports cars in the world. It’s American made right here in Bowling Green Kentucky. Bowling Green should be very proud of that,” said David Durkee, of Evansville, Ind.

As the week goes on, those who were connected by the Corvette in the past now have their chance to make a U-turn and get back in touch.

“It’s great, because a lot of them are back here this time around to celebrate the 25th. We get to reconnect and it’s just fun. It’s like we’re all long lost friends,” Wright said.
